AI SQL Analyst
Turn natural-language questions into SQL for your own database. The app explains each query in plain English, checks that it only reads data, runs it, and shows the results as a table and a chart that you can export to CSV.

For: Data analysts and Python developers
Overview¶
The problem it solves
Answering a business question usually means waiting for someone who knows SQL and the database. This app lets anyone ask in plain English, while showing the generated SQL and refusing anything that would change data.
Who it's for
Data analysts and Python developers · Intermediate level
Main benefits
- Answers from your own database in seconds, without writing SQL
- Every query shown and explained, so results can be trusted and learned from
- Read-only safety checks before anything runs
- A strong data-plus-GenAI portfolio project
Features¶
This app is in development. These are the features of the finished app; screenshots and the exact file list will be added before it goes on sale.

Data flow
- The app reads the database schema (tables, columns, types) when it connects.
- The question and the schema go into a prompt that asks the LLM for SQL and an explanation.
- The validator rejects anything that isn't a single SELECT and adds a row limit.
- Safe SQL runs on a read-only connection; results load into a Pandas DataFrame.
- The app shows the SQL, the explanation, a table and a chart, with CSV export.
Backend components
- Streamlit interface
- Database connector (SQLAlchemy) with a read-only user
- SQL validator
- Query runner and result formatter
AI components
- Schema-aware prompt builder
- Groq-hosted LLM for SQL generation and explanation
